I would recommend the purchase of a silver novelty bracelet -- young girls like bracelets with a "chunky" design. Another perennial favorite is the traditional charm bracelet -- teenage girls sometimes love wearing these, because they can personalize their bracelet with their own unique set of charms (and being different is what being a teenage girl is all about!). For the older child especially, I would also recommend that you coordinate your bracelet purchase with the purchase of a pin, necklace, or earrings set -- let them get a feel for what it is like to wear jewelry accessories that are coordinated. I would also strongly urge that you purchase a better-quality jewelry box for them as well -- this jewelry box should not be a cheap plastic thing, but a wooden, felt-lined jewelry box that they can use for many years, as they grow into adulthood. Many young women look upon the acquisition of that jewelry box as a major milestone in their life -- some of them take it right on into their lives as a married, adult woman.
